The chances that you become infected with any type of germ or virus outside the body is slim to none. Germs live on an average of 5 seconds to 48 hours outside the body on nonporous surfaces, but taking into consideration the soap used to clean the carpet with your porty comming into contact with the machine decreases the spread of germs to a big fat ZERO.
On the other you as a carpet cleaner can spread Germs & Virus's much faster and with greater potential. You should wear a mask before entering a customers home if that concerns you.
