I wear a polo shirt and khaki shorts or pants depending on the weather. There is also a lot of punk looking kids cleaning carpet in my market also.

Michael,
In this new world of cheap printing and small runs you could go to a specialized shirt store in a plaza today and find a guy who would stitch-sew or print a tie onto your shirts.
I k now a person in Canada who printed a seatbelt onto a shirt so the cops would assume he was all buckled-in.
While you are at it have printed in large letters on the back of your shirt.

Am I nuts, or is it that all of you think I meant to buy a white shirt & tie to actually do the cleaning ( although Ted's idea is a clever one ) The white shirt & tie look is simply for advertising purposes , the same ads run for auto mechanics, roofers, lawn care, plumbers, etc etc etc........the customer doesn't expect a man in a tux to show up........FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT.....YOUR FLYER REPRESENTS YOU AS A FIRST IMPRESSION

In cooler weather, I always put a v-neck sweater on over my polo shirt for work. I might take it off at some point during the job, but I show up looking all neat and tidy. |

you can always tie the sleeves together around your neck and let the sweater just hang on your back off your shoulders :)

Just don't work around the vacuum when you have a tie on.

You guys in Canada have/need way more options, since you actually have seasons. We have an eleven month season here, where it's usually 70's-80's. I guess my environment is perfect for tying that sweater around my shoulders . . .
Really, I think about how to dress on this job a lot. The appearance of our van and our own person is often the first impression people have of us. |
