Keep on Truckin........BarwBarn ( what does barwbarn mean ) Sounds like you really enjoy your work Bar-B, if you were younger I'd make fun of you for taking this stuff as serious as you do...........only because someone in their 20's 30's have an open highway to bigger & better accomplishments in thier life. Assuming life is based on 100 years at age 50 you're on your way down the mountain taking all you can as a gift from God. I'd be sucking water out of that creek each day just to be on the safe side, times are rapidly changing in this world. Nightrider |

I've thought a lot about this, Nightrider, because I'm young(ish), and I was by outward appearances moving onto better things. For me, this (ad)venture into the realm of business ownership is one helluva highway. If I just finished my thesis, which I can still do, I could either teach college as a lecturer, which I did as a grad student anyway, or I could go onto doctoral study. My plan, and the expectation of my department, was the latter. Now, although going into business for myself scares me, and it has nothing to do with my education, I'm very glad to do it. It's much more interesting to me than what I was doing in college. I dunno . . . maybe it's just different--maybe I just lost my momentum and needed a change. Regardless, I don't see this current project as a turning away. Maybe when I'm in my 50's, I'll look back on my life and kick myself in the ass everyday. But I actually like this. So what kind of bigger and better accomplishments are you referring to? |

My Bigger & Better accomplishments are like that of a diamond.........there are many facets that make up any and all accomplishments............Carpet cleaning as a one man show is not one of them..............BUT .........on the other hand the discipline, courage, and physical/mental strains of the job says something of your character. I sincerely believe that anyone who succeeds in this business to generate a decent income has the mind set and business know-how to consider other higher generating monetary gains. Michael.........just ask yourself where you want to be 5 years from now............set your goal to begin your journey starting in the month of mid March , and never look back. Hang your goals on your wall to see everyday and never get discouraged. EDUCATION IS YOUR KEY TO THE WORLD, IT WILL OPEN EVERY DOOR OUT THERE IF ONLY TO GLANCE INSIDE. PICK AND CHOSE THE DOOR TO YOUR DREAMS AND SEE THE MAGIC IT BRINGS. You sound like a smart person Michael, clean out the mess that clutters your mind and unleash the emotional desires you deserve NIGHTRIDER |

BARWBARN: Barry W, Barnett...short version. I started out my career as an accountant, working on my CPA. It didn't take me long to realize that I could not sit behind a desk the rest of my life. I spent 30 years with the local newspaper. I was doing this in the day time. Parting with the news and doing this full time and 1/2 was not a major change in my life. Grew up on a farm. Kinda hard to shake your roots. I got to be physical to be happy and healthy. Yea, I'm crazy. I love to work. I still got a house full of kids to support. I am blessed. I hope it continues another 20 years or so. Life is short. Why not do what you enjoy? If I could make twice as much doing something else: I would still clean carpet. (maybe I would do both, Hah....at my age?)

Yes, I want to grow out of the one man show sooner than later. I'm not
in the best place to set hard plans, but I'll certainly set goals.
Thanks.
![]() On the issue of education, well . . . it does open those doors, somewhat. People with formal education--the social certificate, as it were--have more freedom to choose their path. But dreams, big dreams . . . it depends on the dream. For some, education is part of the means to that end. It wasn't really like that for me. I just really need to challenge my mind, and I also needed a comfy waystation. In retrospect, as a means to an end, I really wish I studied marketing. Dammit. Mr. Steamer, I won't argue.
