Well Roy still no answer for you 16 days after you posted. I can tell you this, there is no way you could compare a walk behind to a TM. I'll leave the rest to the boys that know the business.

It doesn't compare to a truck mount. I can't recommend one, cause I haven't used one for years. If you wanna do it economically, try encapsulation or bonnet cleaning.

roy, You should look on the KK website under used equipment. There you will find many uprite walk-behinds in both new & used. On the big jobs most established janitorial firms use walk-behinds for many reasons:
To sum it all up a union worker simply would not be allowed to use a wand. Much too hard work. |

Furthering my last post I apologize to Hydramaster for not including their Multi-Surface Express Machine. This is a system utilizing their patented RX-20 rotating head. It is very simple, very manueverable and very effective. |

Get a glide on that wand, and the hardwork disapears.

They get carpet dry pretty fast. The reason? A vac hose not even 12" long from the vac motor to the cleaning head. LESS HOSE FASTER DRYING !! I had one many moons ago. Also just one piece of equiptment to carry in. NO HEAT.

I have a Kent with a 20 or so inch path. I've cleaned over 10.000 sf on a shift with a helper easily. What Mr. Magic said is true- the brush agitates the fiber really well, the jets , while not putting out a lot of psi, lay down enough solution to clean well. And, again, the vac being so close gave me dry to the touch on a cold, rainy December day. I tried it on an apartment and had to repair the carpet. GREAT for glue down only.

not sure if the original poster is still looking for a response,
however, after using a Power Eagle walk behind in 2003, i wouldn't
recommend it for any carpets with high traffic. I used it in Maine,
USA, in the Augusta City Hall, and the results were horrible. Very high
traffic areas, hoever, the gray carpets would only come out brown with
more than 5 complete passes. the power eagle has a vacuum nozzle in the
front, a scrubbing deck, and a wand, built right in. spray moving
forward, them lift up and pull back. not sure on the specs, but the
unit would extract almost all of the water put down, just not cleaning
the carpet entirely.
In the units defense, the carpets should have been replaced, however, municipalities are cheap and wouldn't replace them. From the results i have seen from a portable demo, i would suggest a powerful portable. I don't have any experience with truckmounts, a little out of my price range. Hope that helps. |

Jared........by the sounds of those carpets.......an OP machine would have made them look really good.......at least it would be enough for them to actually consider paying you for your effort.
