Dry vacuuming carpet prior to wet cleaning should be like bacon & eggs. Common sense says take the dry soil away before making mud with moisture cleaning. I would like to think I am correct in saying this. But, no more than 2% of our customers own a vacuum cleaner. We would like your thoughts and opinions. Edited by Carpetologist |

Probably would be a good idea for us as carpet cleaners to carry vacuums on board our trucks.

If you carry  a vacuum you should use a hepa.  We use turbo vacs and run them threw the truck.  You can charge more to vacuum and most people will pay.  If your Vacuum is no better than homeowners you should leave it in the truck.  On the vacuum kick we only vacuum the traffic areas and enterances.  We are not a domestic service.

I use a Royal vacuum with a hepa filter, and I vacuum on every single job, even if they vacuumed before me. But that's step two; step one is hand-brushing all the edges and corners. Beginning the job with something the customer probably has never seen another cleaner take the time to do is a great way to immediately impress them.

I always work with my business partner. If not for that, it would be more difficult. When we expand into another vehicle, I'll take a part-timer on tighter days. I could always use a good stair bitch. But really, brushing edges and corners doesn't take very long at all (five to ten minutes tops) if you just get right to it and keep up a good pace. I kind of miss using the Hoover Conquest, though, because it's easier to throw it around--the Royal doesn't handle as well.

I always get the custy to do it prior to my arrival or charge another 20% to do it, either way it gets done prior to steam cleaning. >>OP, before and after.

making mud on dry soils if you don't wacuum..True, but mud only an ant can see and with the power we have with TM's, guess what.. no more mud,  no more grease, no more anything, just very clean carpet.. My TM is 100 times stronger than a vacuum cleaner....

I use local college girls for part time helpers. I rake in the prespray and work on stubborn spots while they use the wand. Since I've been doing this, my business skyrockets in the summertime when they wear shorts and t-shirts. It's usually the guy who meets me at the door and I never get complaints.

I have a special short-handled rake that I like to call my "stainguard rake". I spray, they rake. It's really amazing how much some customers are willing to pay for stainguard. By the way, I love my job. |
