Hello all Carpet Pros!!! I need opinions. I am trying to decide on the best portable and other items to get started cleaning carpets. I have read thousands of posts and just can not find a solid answer from someone who is not also a distributor of the machine they think is best.
I will be cleaning rental properties with carpet no older than 10 years. I want to use a rotovac for the tough areas and wand the cleaner areas. 1. On an average 3 bed 1400 square foot house with so-so carpets if you went through the house with the wand and then went through the house with the rotovac. Which one would be faster? Which one would do a better job cleaning? 2. What chemical is the best for prespray? 3. What chemical is the best to put in the machine? 4. What chemical should I use to make the house smell really good, what is the strongest longest lasting deodorizer? 5. Which portable is the best? I know there are A LOT of opinions on this one but if you could state your choice and WHY, all the other newbies reading this in the future and myself would really appreciate it. Here are the ones I am contemplating; (please feel free to suggest a different one) Recoil XPS (500 psi, dual 3 stage vacs, no clue what the water lift is, UP TO 300 CFM, 50 hose, 16 gallon tanks) price 2900.00 Mytee 1005DX (450 psi, dual 3 stage vacs, 140 water lift, 202 CFM, 25 hose, 12 gallon tanks) price 1700.00 Ninja 500 (500 psi, dual 2 stage vacs, 150 water lift, no idea what this one cfm is, 25 hose, 10.5 gallon tanks) price 2200.00 6. Do I need heat in my portable? In advance thank you very much for all of your time you all spend on these boards to help others out. Fish |

1)On extreme carpet the Rotovac works well however drying times with be prolonged so you will need addtional vacuum passes and or air mover.
2)For nasty carpet I like Chemspec EnzAll for standard with stain resistance protectant I like Formula 1 from Cross American many times I'll add Oxi Blaster 3)So many to choose from you will get several answers, from the makers of the Recoil machine I really like the Formula 1 no rinse needed they also make a very nice deodorizer. 4)Deodorizer is a personal preference, you don't want a overpowering fragrance some people could have problems with it. For a odor problem I like Hydrocide. 5) Hands down recoil is the best I love mine only uniy with lengthly hose run and great customer service 6) Heat is a nice option but can also be achived by bucket heaters while vacuuming they heat up the water nicely, if you have to choose between heat and CFMs , choose CFM every time with the presprays nowadays added dwell time and a good prespray will make up the difference. Use Enzall and PreKleen for 20 years and make sure you have very good life insurance and long term dissability insurance. Leave something for the grandchildren.
Buy a heated recoil and a good 11" or 12" hole glided wand wiht 2" tube and use 2" hose. happy cleaning. |

Splash, That is the best advice I have heard you say in a long time. "TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF HEALTH-WISE BEFORE TAKING CARE OF THE CARPET" I like it!

Fish you have to use something that is good for you...
what one guy will swear by another guy will tell you that it's garbage. I always test it out on my own carpets.....you have to find your own comfort level. what ever you do decide on the best thing you can use is a good personality to get the customers to love you. |

You asked if you needed heat. The only problem with heat is that you got to plug in the heater, and have power to run all the vacuums in a tri stage vacuum setup for example and the power to run a 500 PSI pump. All that happened to me is kicking out breakers constantly. You must plug into the 20 amp outlets usually found in the kitchens and bathrooms instead of the 15 amper ones in the bedrooms. And make sure your plugins are on different breakers. Such as plug one into the kitchen and another into the bathroom, thus dividing up your power draw. And god help you if you ever do an old building such as 80 year old city hall with old wiring and electrical box. The heaters will burn out quick also on most models if you turn on the heater by mistake before you put the water in and start the pump. In the end I thought the heater was a pain in the butt. A good hot tap water will do just fine if you are using good presprays and cleaners. By the way I have a truck mount now, and got away from the breaker problem, and now have an overheat problem on occasion where the whole system shuts down. hahahahah |

Thanks for the responses.
I ended up purchasing a rotovac used for 750.00 and a new Mytee 1003dx for 1000.00. Now I just need to get the right chemicals. FISH

Where the heck can you find a Mytee 1003DX for $1000? Even the discounters sell these machines for about $1900. Must be used, or you got the model wrong. Distributors cost is more than $1000.

A carpet cleaner bought it for jobs he wouldnt use his truckmount for and didnt use it but sold his business and sold this as the last remaining item so I know I got a heck of a deal, as I couldnt find them for less than 1849.00 on ebay or anywhere. FISH
